Talacote was born from a simple observation: most prediction platforms sell "gut feeling" without explaining their models. Here, every prediction is computed from 3 public, auditable statistical algorithms (Poisson, ELO, Dixon-Coles), all documented in research papers cited in the methodology section below.

Our methodology in 3 models

  1. Poisson model — Distribution of the number of goals per team based on offensive/defensive averages. Reference: Maher (1982), Karlis & Ntzoufras (2000).
  2. Adjusted ELO system — Relative team strength updated after each match with a K factor calibrated for football (vs chess). Reference: Hvattum & Arntzen (2010).
  3. Dixon-Coles correction — Adjustment of low scores (0-0, 1-0, 0-1, 1-1) underrepresented by Poisson alone. Reference: Dixon & Coles (1997).
